Company History
After a long career of surveying and engineering projects in and around Alpena County, Robert Sandborn Scott (1906-1993) founded the Scott Engineering Company in 1946. The company was incorporated in 1956 under the name R.S. Scott Enginerring Co., Inc, with Robert Scott becoming president and chairman of the coard of directors. In 1976 the company changed their name to R.S. Scott Associates, Inc. to reflect the diversity of services offered by the growing company.
The company projects included civil engineering (road design, site planning, mapping), architecture, and construction engineering (soil bearing, quality assurance, contract management). One of the main services conducted by the company during the 60-80s was aerial surveying for a majority of counties throughout Michigan. Today they hold offices in Alpena and St. Ignace, MI.

Abstract
The vast bulk of this collection consists of aerial survey plates taken of Alpena County, Michigan from 1970-1980 by R.S. Scott Engineering Company of Alpena, MI. There are a few plates that cover other Michigan counties.
Arrangement
Glass plates remain in original Kodak aerial plotting plate boxes and in order received. Each box contains information related to the geographical area surveyed and each plate has a numbering sequence that correlates to survey project.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
Library acquired collection by transfer from Besser Museum for Northeast Michigan who originally accepted the plates from R.S. Scott Associates in the 1990s.
