Biographical / Historical

The Alpena National Bank was charted for business in 1882 by Maltz, Richardson, Gilchrist, Potter, Johnson, & Churchill. The bank opened on February 3, 1883. The Savings department began on April 2, 1894. In 1933, the bank was reorganized, and the name was changed to Alpena Savings Bank. In 1985, it became First of America, then later National City. The current name is PNC Bank, and is the oldest banking location in Alpena.
